In 1996 Crolin Gracie , the son of Carlos Gracie founder of Gracie Jiujitsu, lived in Miami for a brief 6 months. In that period of time Mike Lee Kanarek enrolled in a special 100 hour Instructor course that was cut short at 40 hours due to Crolin's return to Brazil. At that time Mike Lee was only a white belt in Brazilian Jiujitsu (BJJ) but he wanted to continue his BJJ training, so Crolin directed him to the Machado brothers. Today Mike Lee Kanarek holds a Purple belt in BJJ under Rigan Machado through Marcos Santos, Rigan's west coast head representative. In February 2007, Rigan Machado granted permission to Mike Lee to teach BJJ under the supervision of Marcos Santos here at our National Headquarters. Both Rigan Machado and Marcos Santos teach seminars at our school.
Due to the fact that Mike Lee is not a Black Belt in BJJ , ranking in BJJ at our school is issued by Marcos Santos when he visits our school for seminars and belt testing sessions.
We teach a "GI" class once a week for curriculum and belt advancement. We teach a "No-GI" class once a week to better our grappling and submission game. And we teach a "No-GI Ground-N-Pound" class once a week to bring it into our world of Reality-Fighting.
Our Grappling program is designed as a Cross-Training program to prepare us better if the fight hits the ground. By understanding ground-fighting you can defend better. Without a basic understanding of grappling you will be at a deep disadvantage on the ground against even a novice grappler.
***Jiu-jitsu Jaguars is our kids Jiujitsu program, it is a GI program.
